CEVA launches Wi-Fi IP platform to help networking devices with a wide range of end devices

The feature-rich RivieraWaves Wi-Fi IP in SoC designs targeting smartphones, wearables, consumer electronics, smart home, industrial and automotive electronics applications

Seamlessly implement low-power 802.11 compliance connectivity

CEVA, Inc. (NASDAQ: CEVA), the world's leading provider of cellular, multimedia and connectivity DSP IP platforms, announced the RivieraWaves Wi-Fi IP platform to integrate Wi-Fi 802.11a/ in a new class of system-on-chip (SoC) The growing demand for b/g/n/ac, which is used in a wide range of networking devices that make up the Internet of Things (IoT). The RivieraWaves Wi-Fi IP platform supports a number of advanced features including Beam Forming, MulTI-User MIMO (Wave 2), Space-TIme Block Code (STBC), Low Density Parity Check (LDPC), Dynamic Bandwidth Management, Wi-Fi Direct and WAPI.

Each RivieraWaves Wi-Fi platform is also specially tailored to meet different market needs:

· RivieraWaves Sense -- The industry's smallest and lowest power 802.11n (802.11ah coming soon) Wi-Fi IP targeting wearables, medical, wireless audio and other Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Using the RivieraWaves low-power design approach, RivieraWaves Sense enables devices to operate for years with a single AA battery.

· RivieraWaves Surf - High-bandwidth 802.11ac 1x1 and 2x2 Wi-Fi IP for a wide range of smart consumer devices, including smartphones, tablets, smart homes, security surveillance and more. Customers use the complete 802.11ac 1x1 solution designed by RivieraWaves Surf, which consumes less power than any competing vendor's Wi-Fi 802.11n solution.

· RivieraWaves Stream -- up to 4x4 of the highest performance 802.11ac, targeting the most advanced use cases, including Wi-Fi hotspots, media gateways and Wi-Fi load sharing for small base stations. RivieraWaves Stream uses the processing power of CEVA-XC DSP, has the ability to scale to handle hundreds of users, and provides a unified platform for coexistence with LTE/LTE-A cellular networks. RivieraWaves Stream allows users to design complete 802.11ac 4x4 solutions with peak power consumption of less than 3.5W including RF and PA.

Aviv Malinovitch, vice president and general manager of the connectivity business unit at CEVA, said: "Our RivieraWaves Wi-Fi IP has significantly reduced the barriers for customers to integrate advanced 802.11 connectivity into SoC designs. We have all three platforms. Authorized customers who leverage our hardware/software integration capabilities and expertise to develop low-power Wi-Fi products quickly and efficiently."

Each RivieraWaves Wi-Fi platform also includes upper MAC (UMAC), lower MAC (LMAC), and physical layer (PHY modem) capabilities. To facilitate implementation, the UMAC and LMAC software stacks are processor and operating system independent. The physical layer modems can be either hardwired or software defined modem (SDM). The hardwired modem implementation is fully optimized for minimum chip area and very low power consumption, bringing a truly cost-effective Wi-Fi solution for any networked device; the software-defined modem approach provides some multi-protocol networking devices Additional flexibility required and the use of a broad portfolio of CEVA DSP cores and software products to create specialized solutions that meet customer needs.

The RivieraWaves Wi-Fi platform integrates a flexible RF interface to fit the different RF solutions selected by each customer. In addition, CEVA has partnered with RF IP providers including Catena and Maxscend to provide a low-power RF solution that is fully validated by the Wi-Fi platform. These RF IPs offer a variety of different foundries and process nodes, giving customers a wide range of RF options to meet their specific needs.

Customers who require Bluetooth connectivity can seamlessly integrate the RivieraWaves Bluetooth 4.2 IP and intelligent coexistence interfaces that handle Wi-Fi/Bluetooth traffic arbitration to avoid mutual interference, further simplifying overall system design.
