Samsung acquires Boxee for US$30 million

Samsung has acquired Boxee, a set-top box manufacturer, for US$30 million. Boxee was looking for a buyer months ago. According to reports, after Boxee was acquired, it will retain its 45 employees and Boxee currently has offices in New York and Tel Aviv, Israel. Boxee has so far raised a total of 28,500 million US dollars.

Samsung owns smart TV products and production lines. The acquisition of Boxee, a TV set-top box company, is not so unexpected. In particular, we all know that Apple's TV set-top box product, Apple TV, has experienced an increase in sales this year, and the smart set-top box market is now dawning.

Boxee's latest product, the Boxee Cloud DVR, offers much better user interaction than the already outdated cable set-top box-laden software and is an ambitious attempt to replace cable set-top boxes.
