As a long-time China Unicom user, I still find myself stuck in the same old consumption cycle. Looking at the current mobile internet packages, they feel like a weak shift—just a bit more expensive without any real value. I have no intention of changing my number, but managing all these apps for water, electricity, gas, and property services is a hassle. Adding to that, the process of setting up broadband used to be a nightmare, and now I’m once again flooded with offers from Amway Telecom’s unlimited data plans. After years of using their service, I’ve grown tired of it, and I just needed an excuse to switch to a dual-SIM Android phone.
My first choice was the S8. Since the S7, Samsung has lost its edge as a top-tier brand. The price hasn’t dropped much, even online or offline. On New Year's Day, the 4+64 version of the S8 was priced around 5,688 yuan, with some online deals bringing it down to 4,900 yuan (in Hangzhou). However, considering the upcoming release of the Snapdragon 845 in February, I hesitated because the original price for the green and yellow versions had already been reduced, and I didn’t want to get stuck with an older model after so many years of waiting.
Next, I considered domestic brands. A 6+64 configuration could be found for around 3,000 yuan. Full-screen designs were popular, whether it was the Blue and Green Plant or the Mi Mix 2 with 5T. I visited Xiaomi’s physical stores multiple times, and while the ceramic body felt great, the forced ads during the experience were annoying. As for the OnePlus 5T, I never had a chance to try it in-store. Although it’s known as a performance monster, I decided to buy it on JD.com just to give it a shot. No nonsense, just unboxing.
Even though it wasn’t a real unboxing, going through the process gave me a sense of ceremony. The white background with the "1+" logo stood out. The box looked refined, but the sliding mechanism wasn’t very smooth. The back of the box listed the manufacturing date and device information. Even though it said “12.25†as the factory date, I suspect it might have been returned by someone else, but since it didn’t affect the appearance or performance, I just left it as is. It’s a niche brand, but the 7-day return policy without reason is understandable.
The 6-inch 18:9 AMOLED screen is one of the best in the domestic market. The factory came with a high-permeability film, but there are many online criticisms about the screen being “eye-damaging.†I tested it against my previous iPhone 3 and found it okay. It didn’t cause eye strain as some people claimed.
The network logo is directly attached to the body and can be easily removed. The overall build is metal, similar to the iPhone 7 Plus, but it doesn't support wireless charging. Some users have reported leakage issues, but I haven’t experienced it yet. When charging, I didn’t feel anything unusual, but maybe it will show up after a longer period? Anyone with more knowledge, please share.
Is the camera bump for signal strength or just for aesthetics? The three-stage switch works normally—silent, vibrate, and do not disturb. The IP rating is good. The single speaker sounds decent, but the volume isn’t very loud. It uses a Type-C charging port and still keeps the 3.5mm headphone jack despite being slim.
Inside the box, you’ll find a transparent phone case, manual, warranty card, cultural stickers, and the SIM card. To make it look international, the manual includes seven languages, which seems a bit overkill. The setup steps are quite detailed.
The 5V-4A DASH charging head is quite large, and the data cable is specifically designed for DASH charging. The screen has a slight gap compared to the iPhone X, but given it's 1080p and the price point, it's still decent.
Pros: Fast charging and smooth performance. The system is clean, and the phone comes with the OnePlus Store, making it easy to install Google Framework and Google Play.
Cons: The camera isn’t the best. The fingerprint sensor is on the back, which is common among Android flagships, so it's not a big issue. Overall, it’s a solid choice for those looking for speed and reliability.
