Sydney Virtual Reality Studio Start VR is currently working with Samsung Australia and Chris O'Brien Lifehouse on a breakthrough plan to help relieve the stress of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy by providing Samsung virtual reality technology.
The project demonstrated the potential of VR to help relieve stress and provide a "distraction therapy" during chemotherapy. Patients will wear a Samsung Gear VR and choose an experience from the Gear VR or Start VR content library, which includes relaxing tourist attractions, exciting parachuting, boat trips across Sydney Harbour, and sparkling Snorkeling in the blue sea water, and petting a cute koala at the zoo.
The program will be led by Martin Taylor, head of content for Start VR. He will work with Brian Cancer Center and Samsung Australia to help ease patient pressure.
Taylor said: "Our main goal is to create compelling virtual reality content that will have a positive impact on users' lives. We want to determine if VR is likely to change people's perception of the current environment. We think the medical structure is a good starting point. Because people need to wait uneasily for unknown results. After several months of discussion and planning, the real reward is to satisfy these amazing patients and see them use the power of VR to experience instant joy."
Taylor added: “Exploring the application of VR in the healthcare field highlights an exciting use case for this new medium and we are proud to continue to drive the development of VR content creation.â€
The Brian Cancer Center has always been happy to embrace cutting-edge technologies, the latest scientific discoveries and caring care. Now they are using virtual reality as a treatment support tool. They will also provide clinical staff guidance and supervision to ensure the safety of patients.
Michael Marthick, director of adjuvant therapy at the Brian Cancer Center, points out: “By allowing patients to 'escape’ chemotherapy, they can give them room to forget about what is happening. Patients will be more nervous before chemotherapy is started, and this will cause them to Heart, keep their spirits. Health not only refers to physical aspects but also psychological aspects."
Martin Brown of Samsung Australia stated: "The cooperation with Start VR and Brian Cancer Center has opened up a new perspective for the application of Samsung's virtual reality platform in the medical environment."
He added: "We believe that working with partners such as Start VR and the Bryan Cancer Center is very important for us to develop practical use cases for technology and to bring benefits to organizations in a wide range of areas."
