Following the introduction of the industry-leading CobraNet® network digital audio technology, Cirrus Logic relaunched the new product development platform CobraComTM. At the AES conference in San Francisco, USA, Cirrus Logic fully exhibited its CobraComTM platform designed to develop digital audio network equipment based on CobraNet technology.
CobraCom hardware uses standard Ethernet technology and the new IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) standard, including Fast Ethernet-based CobraNet interface, speaker power amplifier, on-board microphone, external microphone input, general purpose I/O, RS-232 Serial port and PoE power. The CobraCom reference design features the CobraNet CS496012 audio system processor. The processor integrates a 32-bit professional audio digital signal processor (DSP) engine and CobraNet transmission to support local processing of audio signal in and out of auto-ducking, speaker zone equalization and ambient sound monitoring. PoE helps power network audio devices over the same CAT-5 cable. The CAT-5 cable is a channel for transmitting digital audio, system control information and network data, simplifying network installation, configuration and management. The rapid adoption of VoIP technology has made it possible to use PoE-enabled converters and network-powered CobraCom systems for mid-span power injectors.
