Libya's first wholly owned submarine cable completed

Libya's first wholly owned submarine cable completed Libya International Telecom and Huawei Marine Network Co., Ltd. ("Huawei Ocean") announced on the 8th that it will complete the construction of Silphium, the first submarine fiber optic cable system wholly owned by Libya, to meet Libya's growing demand for cross-border communications.

Silphanium is 425 kilometers long across the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the longest non-relay cable systems in the world; its maximum capacity is 1.2T, 10G per wave, and it can be expanded to 40G or 100G per wave in the future.

Silphium connects Darnah in Libya and Chania in Crete, Greece, and is the third international cable in Libya. Through the OTEGLOBE landing point in Chania, Libya docked with multiple European hubs. With the liberalization of the Libyan market, communications infrastructure will play an important stimulating role in economic growth. Silphium will lay the foundation for future economic development. Despite numerous obstacles encountered in the project delivery process, all of them worked together to overcome the full cooperation of Huawei Ocean, Libya International Telecom, OTEGLOBE and Global Marine. In the end, they were successfully delivered, and they not only gained many unique experiences, but also proved Huawei's commitment to the ocean and good delivery capabilities.

“We believe that Silphium will play a major role in the reconstruction of Libya and will make an important contribution to Libya’s economic and social development. Silphium will provide Libya with a new option for access to the Internet and will also provide business and employment opportunities to Libya’s eastern region. "Kamal Farhat, chief executive of Libya's international telecommunications company, said:" Although the delivery process is full of challenges, it is ultimately delivered successfully. This is thanks to the good cooperation spirit of Huawei Ocean, leading technical solutions and professional delivery and construction capabilities. Huawei Ocean is A trusted partner."

“This is the second submarine cable project built by Huawei Ocean in Libya. We have experienced a critical period of Libya’s transformation and established a sustainable cooperative relationship with our customers during the period.” said Nigel Bayliff, CEO of Huawei Ocean, “Huawei Ocean Committed to responding quickly to customer needs and providing customers with high-performance, reliable submarine cable systems to maximize customer benefits."
