A few days ago, Shahar Waiser, the founder of Gett, an online car rental company, shared his vision that driverless cars will become widespread globally within the next 5 to 7 years. He emphasized that by then, comprehensive laws and regulations will be essential to support this transformation.

According to Waiser, there are three main challenges that need to be addressed before autonomous vehicles can fully integrate into society. First, while the technology is already in place, it will take around 5 to 7 years for legal frameworks to catch up. Second, there's the critical issue of determining liability in case of accidents—whether it's the owner, the manufacturer, or the vehicle itself. Third, public perception and trust must change; people still have fears about sharing the road with self-driving cars.
Speaking at the "Open Innovation" forum in Moscow, Waiser said, "We all want to ride in these cars, but we're not yet comfortable walking in front of them. People need to believe in this technology and feel safe using it."
He also highlighted the growing demand for transportation services, especially in the taxi industry. "Taxis don’t require parking, which is a major issue in big cities. Parking costs are often higher than taxi fares, so more people may choose to use taxis instead of driving their own cars," he added. This shift could significantly impact urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion.
