At the 2018 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, NXP Semiconductors collaborated with leading IoT industry partners such as Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Accenture, Au-Zone, and ClearBlade. The event took place from January 9th to 12th, showcasing the latest advancements in edge computing and its growing role in smart applications. Attendees had the chance to experience firsthand how edge computing and artificial intelligence are shaping the future of connected devices.
The IoT edge computing experience at CES focused on two main aspects: intelligent edge node processing and secure, efficient edge platforms. First, NXP demonstrated the scalable computing power available at the edge, using a wide range of IoT processors—from ultra-low-power microcontrollers to high-performance i.MX8 application processors. Through partnerships like Au-Zone’s DeepView Neural Net technology, visitors saw real-world examples such as identifying food items in an oven or refrigerator, or detecting anomalies in sensor data for predictive maintenance.
Second, NXP showcased a secure and efficient edge platform, such as the Layerscape LS1043/46, which enables seamless connectivity between cloud services like Google Cloud IoT, AWS IoT, and Azure IoT, and edge devices. This reduces latency and improves performance when connecting IoT devices to the cloud. Demonstrations included machine learning-based face recognition, remote device management, and secure cloud configuration—all integrated with the ClearBlade IoT edge platform.
At CES 2018, NXP not only presented a unique IoT edge computing experience but also pushed the boundaries of what edge computing can achieve. By embedding intelligence into edge nodes, these systems can now perceive their environment and make smarter decisions. Visitors were invited to explore NXP’s vision of "Artful Intelligence" and understand how the company collaborates with top industry partners to deliver powerful, efficient, and scalable IoT solutions.
