In 2013, Rubin left Android to join Google’s robotics division, but he quickly realized the long-term nature of the work didn’t suit him. Instead, he started Playground Global, a company that invests in hardware startups and provides them with top engineers and tools.
Playground Global isn’t just an incubator—it’s a platform designed to accelerate the development of smart devices. Its goal is to create a standard architecture for AI-powered machines, similar to how Android revolutionized smartphones.
Rubin’s vision includes a world where millions of smart devices collect real-world data to train AI systems. This would create a feedback loop: smarter AI leads to better data collection, which in turn makes AI even more powerful.
