The process starts with copper slag, which doesn’t need to be pure. Any material containing copper can be used. The first step involves melting the copper, but not all compositions melt easily. To reach the high temperature required, workers pump oxygen under extreme pressure into the furnace.

Once the copper reaches its boiling point, it's poured into molds. The heat is intense—so intense that even the camera lens can't withstand the proximity.

After pouring, the molds are cooled by submerging them in water. This helps solidify the copper into a more manageable form.

Next, the copper is sent to an electrolytic bath to remove impurities, resulting in much cleaner copper plates.
