As the New Year approaches, what are your valued friends planning to treat themselves to? The old chicken is going to take care of himself this year, prepare a big house, and give himself some learning materials.
The black group got the last WD 8T hard disk + 4T Cool Wolf. After thinking about moving into a pair of 8T, I decided not to wait any longer. I pulled the grass section of this 8T hernia plate, and the dog just kept barking!
**Reasons to Purchase**
Originally, I wanted to buy another pair of MyBook 8T and Black Group. But since my Amazon Prime membership had expired, I had no choice but to look for other options. How can I get a Prime membership again? In the world of Jack Ma and Blind East, it's not easy...
The first reason was selection. After reading BackBlaze’s 17-year Q2, Q3, and cumulative hard drive failure rate report, I didn’t have to think twice. The failure rate of the fast disk HUH728080ALE600 is really impressive.

After surveying the market, the 3K price made me run to the toilet... but then I found a treasure. Even though it cost five years of official protection, the price was more than my waistline. If each hard drive lasts more than two and a half years, buying one would not be a loss. It could even revolutionize your tech. At that time, you might even get a new model. If you don’t know how to use it, just follow my principle of “Qiang†and find a piece of Baosteel called “0 power on.†Yushu’s 8T helium disk.
At this point, we found another model, HUH728080ALE604, which was only available at the end. The price was much lower. Checked the post, and it said the difference was just in the encryption method (ISE vs SE). However, many sellers offered the 604 as an OEM version of the 600 or a replica. Plus, BackBlaze’s report showed the best failure rate was for the 600 model. So I let go of my hesitation and placed the order!
**Appearance Gallery**
The city express delivered it the next day. The seller said same-city orders could be sent via SF Express, but it still came via regular delivery. I was a bit upset, but when I opened the box, I was happy.

It was wrapped in thick foam paper and bubble bags. Although there was no branded packaging, the short-distance transport in the same city should be safe, like a lottery ticket.

The electrostatic bag had a hole, and a warranty sticker was attached. Though the handling was a bit rough, it was better than having a completely intact bag. I found that the hard disk had a sacrificial operation on the warranty, which I could easily accept.
There were some basic parameters on the front of the electrostatic bag. Many were unclear, so I just wrote down whatever came to mind. What if this affects the warranty quality?
Opening the electrostatic bag, the front looked similar to a WD helium disk. A white label covered it, and I continued to write randomly. The body didn't have a WWN printed. When I tested it, I forgot to check AIDA64 and just put it into the Black Group. I don’t know if anyone else knows how to view the hard disk WWN in the DSM system...
On the back of the hard disk, there were two QR codes and an anti-counterfeit sticker. The cable was visible. There were also some scales, likely related to dates, but the words were engraved. I checked the posts for a long time without understanding, and asked a friend who knew more. The manufacturer's label looked like ciphertext—what kind of consideration was that? (Stupid face)
There were no marks on the gold finger, and the overall appearance was quite satisfactory.
**Experience Feelings**
Before going to sleep, I put it into the superior Y-1094 hard disk box (ASM1153E master) on the computer. The result was quick, and I saw everything turn green before shutting down... I forgot to take a screenshot and just put up a smart bar. After a dozen hours and a few power cycles, the test results were all zero. Shouldn’t that be a smart brush?
First, I ran a benchmark read. The curve looked fine, and the outermost two or three TBs had decent speed.
Then I used FASTCOPY for a copy test:

Reading from HGST:

Writing to HGST:
After partitioning HGST, the copy process may have been limited by simultaneous reading and writing, making it slower.
Maybe it's limited by the hard disk box? Basic read/write speeds were around 140 MB/s. Regardless, the little partner has already joined the Black Group and is on the machine!
V4’s side hard disk cage can only hold two 3.5-inch drives. The 4T Cool Wolf had to be moved to the bottom, so the chassis can fit all the hard disks (fan x3, hard drive x3, PCIx1 chassis with three slots, but the ITX motherboard only supports one). Obsessive-compulsive disorder cured.
From this perspective, the space between the hard disk cage and the bottom hard disk is very tight, less than 25 pixels. I wonder if it will affect heat dissipation slightly.
**To Sum Up**
In general, I bought the HUH728080 ALE600 at a good price, and my heart was still excited. As an enterprise disk, compared to the 8T removed from the Mybook, the temperature was quite similar, staying around 32–33°C. The noise was low, but the three hard drives in the Joe Sibo V4 box were noisy and made it hard to sleep (but saved a lot of electricity). The most important thing is its average MTBF of 2.5 million hours, which gives me peace of mind for backing up photos and code. Even though there’s no five-year warranty, insurance only protects the drive, and data still depends on yourself.
This time, it's time to open the box. Below is the blackboard layout job (I don’t know what to wait for in the comment area!).
1. How to check the hard disk WWN in the DSM system?
2. How to interpret the grid and points on the back of the hard disk?
If I answer these two questions first, I’ll update the captain in the comment area!
The old chickens finally wish you good health. ðŸµ
