In my explanation, the machine was sold shortly before this article was written, because it wasn’t used temporarily, but it still got some gray areas and overheated. I switched to an X230, changed the FHD, and installed a black Apple. It's now cool and I'm continuing my journey of tinkering.

Last year, I contacted an elite super-mini motherboard with N2808, 64GB eMMC, and 4GB RAM. The price was around 300 RMB, so I bought one immediately, as shown below:

Besides the 64GB eMMC, it also has an mSATA and mini PCIe slot. The factory came with a genuine Windows 8, which can be upgraded to Windows 10 without damage. It uses aluminum foil for heat dissipation and performs well. I bought two pieces of acrylic from Taobao to make a shell. After playing with it for a while, I decided to use this motherboard for a super-mini NAS, installed Black Hui, connected an mSATA to a SATA hard drive, and a mini PCIe to another hard drive. In theory, it can support up to 5 drives. The peak power consumption is under 15W, and it has been running stably for six months. This board is a perfect match for the Black Hui system, operating smoothly without any issues. I fell in love with this ultra-mini motherboard.
Last year, I saw an elite I7 7500U motherboard on Taobao. Its PCB size is 115*111mm, palm-sized, with a low-voltage 7-slot CPU, dual DDR4 memory slots, M.2 SSD, M.2 Wi-Fi card, Type-A, USB3.0 Type-C, audio/microphone hybrid jack, dual gigabit network ports, Mini DP, and HDMI. It has onboard USB2.0 pins. The performance, size, and I/O ports are all very good. I bought it immediately. This configuration isn’t the top model on the official website, and there was only one available at that time, likely out of print.

This performance is still quite good!
First edition: When purchasing just the bare board, the seller doesn’t provide any technical support or thermal shells. You have to do everything yourself. I tested the first light by buying memory and hard drives from Jingdong. I used an aluminum pressure plate above the CPU, fixed it with a rubber band, and blew air from a USB fan. The first time I turned it on, it had a Windows 10 system pre-installed.

The first time I turned it on, there were no accidents. The CPU was an ES version, and I guessed it was a test version from the factory since there were no traces of the four fixing holes on the motherboard. It looked very new. Although it was an ES CPU, the main frequency, Turbo frequency, and stepping were the same as the official version. System information and Master Lu couldn’t detect it as ES, only CPU-Z could. The baking test showed that the Turbo frequency stayed at 3.5GHz.

By the way, the memory I originally bought for less than 220 RMB is now priced at 489. I sold it two days ago. It took half a year, and I didn’t lose money. The hard drive dropped by tens of RMB, but I kept it.
After turning it on, the next step was to install the heatsink and case. This motherboard has no information online. It was a mini-host motherboard released by elites at CES in 2016, but it wasn’t sold domestically or internationally. There were no disassemblies or evaluations. Later, I found an article abroad. The original fan was fixed on the shell with three screws securing the heatsink to the motherboard. My plan was to use the same method, fixing it with two pieces of acrylic, customizing the cooling system with copper, U-tube, and heatsink, then ordering it from Taobao, buying cooling fans, and going through two rounds of adjustments to finally form the first edition.

Sold it yourself, smear the solder paste on the parts, clamp it with a clip, and bake it on a gas stove to get it in minutes.

But when placed on the motherboard, I found a problem. The original custom U-tube width was 30MM, but the seller made it about 40MM, resulting in the heat sink protruding about 7MM beyond the edge of the motherboard. I didn’t want to re-install it, so I widened the acrylic shell earlier.

After fixing it on the main board, as shown above, the screw is M2, and the heat sink is fixed with the self-made spring and washer.

Fixed fan and shell, there is a pit here, generally not paying attention, prone to problems. The motherboard fan socket definition is not the same as usual, fortunately plugged in before the next amount, otherwise not burn the motherboard is burning fan.

Contacted the seller to customize a different one, the first widened due to the heat sink, the next increased, because it is active cooling, I also contacted the seller to make a USB2.0 module, built-in USB leads, waiting for the custom shell process in the middle, the rear fan was changed again, and the ThinkPad x61 fan was removed, replacing the original fan.

The daily use temperature is stable below 40 degrees, and the temperature of the single-bake FPU is around 60 degrees. Normal use will not be fully loaded, and the heat dissipation is ideal. The reason for choosing the x61 fan is that the fan core is Panasonic, which is very quiet after adding oil, and it is very small, suitable for this small machine, and it usually runs at low speed. I re-made two antennas myself, shortened them, and stuck them on both sides of the machine, very good.
