Germany - OSRAM ( http:// ) released the 8 Watt Parathom Classic - the first fully-fledged LED substitute for 40 Watt incandescent lamps. The OSRAM Parathom Classic is the worlds first bulb-shaped LED lamp with a screw Base that can fully replace a 40 Watt incandescent lamp in a few swift moves.
However, the Parathom Classic requires just eight Watts to achieve the same light yield, ie 80 percent less energy. And with an average service life of 25,000 hours, it outlasts an incandescent lamp by a dazzling factor of 25.
