Chip production project expenditures will set a record of $47.2 billion

According to foreign media reports, according to the International Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Association (SEMI), this year's global semiconductor production project spending may increase by 22%, of which chip equipment production expenditure will increase by 28%.

SEMI analyst Christian Gregor Dieseldorff said: "The global chip production project expenditure in 2011 will exceed the record high of 46.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2007."

Chip giant Intel has increased its capital expenditure budget this year from 5.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2010 to 9 billion U.S. dollars. Other chip makers including AMD, Broadcom, Qualcomm and Nvidia, as well as chip equipment manufacturers including application materials, KLA Tencor and Lam Research, have also seen an increase in their spending budget this year compared to last year.

Standard & Poor's semiconductor equipment industry segment index rose by nearly 3%.
