Intel Dalian wafer fab officially put into operation in October

On September 10, Intel Corporation today announced that the Dalian Fab 68 will be officially launched in October this year. With a total investment of up to US$2.5 billion, this plant is Intel’s first in Asia and the world’s eighth-largest 300-mm wafer fab. The wafers it produces will be used primarily for the production of chipset products.

Intel said that the Dalian chip factory will use 65-nm process technology and the world's leading 300-mm wafer technology to produce chipset products and support Intel's core microprocessor business. The factory will adopt Intel's unified and strict environmental protection indicators to control water-saving, energy-saving and chemical waste disposal.

It is reported that on March 26, 2007, Intel formally signed a contract with the Dalian Municipal Government and began construction of a 300-mm wafer fab. At present, Intel's Dalian chip factory (Fab 68) has more than 4,000 employees and has attracted more than 30 supporting suppliers to settle in, and has signed more than 60 local suppliers in Dalian. And cooperated with Dalian University of Technology to establish the Institute of Semiconductor Technology.

According to media reports, the Intel Dalian wafer fab is also a large taxpayer in the Dalian Development Zone. In a recent evaluation, the Intel factory that has not yet been put into production has become the thirteenth tax for high-tech zones.
