GTAT faces bankruptcy difficulties, financiers donate 80 million US dollars to help
According to foreign media reports, financiers took the $80 million plan to find a way to get rid of bankruptcy for former Apple partner GT Advanced Technologies. The proposal was given in a court document this week. The proposal calls for lending institutions to provide $60 million in new loans and $20 million in preferred stock to the GT early next year. At present, GT has about 50 million US dollars in bankruptcy loans, plus the middle cost. The ownership of the company will be given to the creditor.
Earlier this month, Apple and GT Advanced reached an agreement on $439 million in outstanding debt. In order to be able to repay the debt, GT has already planned to auction off the sapphire production equipment that was previously added to the deal.
According to earlier court documents, GTAT will need to complete the auction by November 23. It is not clear whether the company has finally achieved its goal. Even if it does not, the agreement provides a deadline for the 31st of this month.
It is reported that in the original supplier agreement, GTAT spent a total of 900 million US dollars to build a sapphire production plant in Mesa, Arizona, of which 439 million US dollars of funds are provided by Apple. Originally, the company wanted to produce anti-scratch sapphire for Apple's TouchID fingerprint sensor, iPhone's camera coverage, and Apple Watch's high-end surface. However, it was forced to face bankruptcy because it could not meet Apple's production requirements.
