Recently, Cambridge Consultants' R&D team has developed a conceptual solution for ophthalmology. It scans the user's eyes with a smartphone or VR helmet and can be tested without leaving the residence.
For now, the user needs to go to the hospital for an examination, or view it with an optical instrument, which will flash around the field of view. The Cambridge consultancy developed a helmet called Viewi that costs only 20 pounds to provide the same testing services.
Install a dedicated APP, press the button, the test will be displayed on the smartphone; helmet or mobile phone needs to connect to Bluetooth.
Simon Karger, head of Cambridge Consultant Surgery and Intervention Products, said: “If you have open-angle glaucoma, you can’t recover if you lose vision. If you can diagnose early and treat early, you can still make your condition better. Although the current diagnostic testing methods have been quite effective, the ophthalmologic management system has been overloaded."
"Utilizing our own expertise in optics (in conjunction with algorithmic techniques), we can provide simple, inexpensive, rapid screening tests that allow patients to be tested at home. The Viewi system does not replace existing screening and Management system, it is only used to strengthen the clinic test system." Calg said.
The test results will be displayed on the patient's mobile phone in a simple format and integrated with the optical instrument test results.
The Viewi helmet is somewhat similar to the Gear VR. Users can test the eye at home by putting the phone in a helmet. Viewi will use flash to test the sensitivity of different spots in the field of view. The patient will see a beam of light at the press of a button. The Viewi technology has the same testing effect as the traditional method, but at a much lower cost.
Every time a flash point is seen, the user needs to press a button to activate the remote Bluetooth function and send the information to the helmet. The entire test takes 10 minutes and 5 minutes for each eye. After the test is completed, the results will be shared with the doctor and they will assist in the analysis.
